At the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), we know teaching and curriculum are the foundation for student success. We also know that the spaces where students learn matter for their growth and development.
That is why this monthly feature will highlight the different spaces across the WRDSB that help students learn, connect and grow independently.
From collaborative study areas to creative and innovative spaces, each featured element helps students succeed. The hard work of our Facility Services team shows our commitment to building a system where all students are provided with the opportunities to access their chosen pathway in learning and life.
Huron Heights Secondary School – Cafeteria Stage

Why it Shines
In the fall, Huron Heights Secondary School upgraded its stage floor. This renovation helps the school to support a variety of performances, including student activities and arts programs.
“The stage is being put to great use this year with daily student activities at lunch, a spring play on the horizon and music and drama productions happening daily for classes. We are grateful for the upgrades and the investment in the arts,” says Carli Parsons, Principal at Huron Heights Secondary School.
Blair Road Public School – Parking Lot

Why it Shines
Blair Road Public School recently redesigned its bus traffic flow and expanded the staff parking lot to improve safety and efficiency.
The redesign introduced designated entry and exit points for vehicles, specifically benefiting car traffic and special education buses, allowing them to enter and exit the school parking lot more safely during student drop-off and pick-up.
The parking lot construction also added 12 new parking spaces for staff, representing a significant improvement for the school. As the Blair community has grown, increased student enrollment and staffing levels have created a greater demand for parking. These additional spaces have helped ease congestion, reduce the need for off-site parking, and improve day-to-day operations for staff members.
“The new entry and exit areas have been the greatest enhancement of all,” says Carolina Miranda, Principal of Blair Road Public School. “This change has greatly improved safety and efficiency, particularly for our special education bus drop-off and pick-up. Our most vulnerable students are now able to arrive and depart in a much safer way, and the redesigned traffic flow has created a smoother and more secure drop-off and dismissal process overall.”
