On Monday, December 15, at a Board Meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), Trustees ratified a proposed change to the attendance boundaries at:

  • Blair Road Public School
  • Highland Public School

This change includes the neighbourhood south of the railroad tracks and west of Southgate Dr (in the area of Hardcastle Dr, Freure Dr and Kent St), Cambridge.

These changes will take effect beginning September 2026.

Summary of Changes

For those living in the impacted boundary:

  • New students to this area, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6, will attend Highland Public School, starting in September 2026
  • Students currently attending Blair Road Public School in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 can choose to remain there until completing Grade 6
    • Siblings not yet attending Blair Road Public School will be directed to Highland Public School. Requests to attend Blair Road Public School with their older sibling may be considered, but no transportation will be provided under any circumstances.
      • Siblings not yet attending Blair Road Public School will be directed to Highland Public School. Requests to attend Blair Road Public School with their older sibling may be considered, but no transportation will be provided under any circumstances.
  • All students in Grades 7 to 8 will attend St. Andrew’s Public School, as they currently do

Benefits of the Boundary Change

The adjustment ensures that students attend the school located closest to their homes. This change supports more walkable, connected neighbourhood school boundaries.

Phased Approach

Students currently in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 can continue at Blair Road PS until completing Grade 6. However, new registrants starting school after the change will attend Highland Public School for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6.
