Dear families and guardians, we closed off the week with our amazing Terry Fox Run! It’s been another (wonder)full week here at Blair – and soon it will be October. Please see all the great upcoming things happening here at our school next week, and have a wonderful weekend!

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day – September 30)

This Monday, we observe Orange Shirt Day to honour the survivors of residential schools and remember those who didn’t return. Don’t forget to wear orange on Monday to show your support! Students have been reading books, and doing some learning in their classrooms with their teachers through the month of September.

WEFI information

Our school is partnered with WEFI to support student learning opportunities. Please visit the donation page to understand more about the foundation, and to find all the right links if you wish to contribute and help make a difference – a link has been permanently added to our school website, under Resources.

Pizza starts next week:

Our first pizza day is coming up next Thursday! Be sure to double-check your orders to confirm which weeks you’ve ordered pizza for, and remember to send a lunch on any weeks you haven’t ordered.

Picture Day is on October 2nd!

Get ready for Picture Day on Wednesday!

National Custodial Workers Recognition Day (October 2nd)

Please remind your children to say a BIG thank you to Mr. Brayshaw for his hard work in keeping our school clean and safe! He is an incredible custodian, and I would love to see our students showing him the appreciation he deserves.

World Teachers’ Day is on October 5th:

As we approach World Teacher Day on October 5th, please take a moment to express our gratitude for the incredible dedication and hard work our teachers put in every day. They inspire, support, and nurture our children, shaping their futures with patience and care.

Communication with staff and school safety

To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and the school environment, we kindly ask that all parents and guardians refrain from approaching the portables without a scheduled appointment. Unannounced visits can disrupt the learning environment and pose safety concerns. Please contact the school office or your child’s teacher to book a time for meetings or discussions. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe and organized school setting.

Fall Food Drive (from last week…)

We’re excited to announce that Blair Road will be hosting a FOOD DRIVE from September 30th to October 7th! All donations will support the Cambridge Food Bank, helping community members in need. Suggested items include:

  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Cereal
  • Lunch items for children
  • Cooking oil
  • Soup
  • Pantry items

Your contributions can make a real difference in our community. Let’s come together to support those in need! Thank you for your generosity!

Indigo Love of Reading Foundation Fundraiser (ongoing, until October 6th)

Did you know we’re currently running our annual Adopt a School fundraiser supporting Blair Road PS? Did you know that many teachers spend up to $1,000 per year of their own money to buy books for their students? Did you know the average age of books at many of the schools supported by the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation is more than 25 years old? That’s older than Indigo!

With the start of a new school year, Indigo and the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation are joining forces to champion literacy and support students and educators across Canada. From September 13 to October 6, we will build a deep and meaningful connection between stores and local communities through the Adopt a School fundraiser, a one-on-one fundraising initiative that raises and distributes funds directly into each store’s local community, with 100% of donations going to each store’s partner school.

So, from Friday, September 13 to October 6, you can visit Indigo at Cambridge Centre and Indigo Guelph to buy a bookmark made by our very own Blair Road PS students or purchase books for the school that reflect your child’s needs. All proceeds go directly to the school, and our school will be able to purchase books at a 30% discount with the funds raised.

A HUGE shout-out to Mrs. Ellis for her leadership in running this amazing initiative!

Community Flyers

The WRDSB offers community organizations and not-for-profits the opportunity to share information on their programs and services with our schools on our Community E-Flyers website. Each week we will share the most recent flyers shared with the Board in this newsletter in hopes that you share this information with your community if you deem it appropriate.
